Dr. Debapriya emphasized the importance of addressing public relief needs as a priority before implementing significant reforms
Reforms are an ambitious goal, but ensuring relief for the people must come first

Renowned economist Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya has highlighted the importance of pursuing reforms while ensuring public well-being, especially in the lead-up to elections.
Speaking at a national dialogue titled “Which Path for Unity” held on Friday at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium in Dhaka, Dr. Debapriya remarked: “Reforms are an ambitious vision, but providing relief to the people must take precedence. Do not misguide those focused on reforms.”
He further elaborated: “In the pursuit of the ideal, I must not overlook the practical. My goal is to reach the highest standards, but without addressing present challenges, that ambition cannot be realized.”
The dialogue, organized by the Forum for Bangladesh Studies, commenced on Friday as part of a two-day discussion on unity, reform, and elections. Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus virtually inaugurated the event.
