CA Yunus encourages world leaders to leverage sports as a tool for social change
Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus has highlighted the potential of sports to drive social transformation, urging that it be utilized as a powerful tool for meaningful change rather than remaining merely an entertainment.
He emphasized that sports holds significant social power, stating, "There are many opportunities right in front of us, yet we often fail to approach them in new ways. We aren’t sacrificing anything; we’re adding something valuable."
Dr. Yunus made these remarks during a plenary session on "The State of Climate and Nature" on Wednesday, held alongside the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in Switzerland, as reported by UNB.
Reflecting on his involvement with the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Chief Adviser shared that he was invited in 2018 to incorporate social issues into the event, to which he immediately agreed, saying, "Yes, of course, we can do that." He also noted that Milan had sought his assistance in ensuring the 2026 Winter Olympics would have a strong social focus.
Among those present were Lamiya Morshed, SDGs Affairs Coordinator, and Shafiqul Alam, the Chief Adviser's Press Secretary.
