A petition has been filed calling for a ban on Indian TV channels in Bangladesh
The petition was submitted on Monday by Supreme Court lawyer Ekhlas Uddin Bhuiyan.
A petition has been filed in the High Court seeking the suspension of all Indian television channels' broadcasts in Bangladesh.
Supreme Court lawyer Ekhlas Uddin Bhuiyan submitted the petition on Monday, naming the Information Secretary, Home Secretary, and the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) as respondents.
The petition, based on Section 29 of the Cable Television Network Operation Act 2006, calls for a complete ban on Indian TV channels' broadcasts in the country. It also requests the issuance of a rule to determine why an official order should not be issued to halt such broadcasts.
Bhuiyan mentioned that the High Court's Division Bench is expected to hear the case later this week.
