Why is a regional UN office being established in this country?

Islamic scholar Dr. Mizanur Rahman Azhari has expressed skepticism over the move to establish a regional United Nations office in Bangladesh.

In a Facebook post on Saturday (July 19), he questioned the effectiveness of such offices, asking, “Are the people in countries that already host regional UN offices truly living in peace?”

He further wrote, “Why establish a regional UN office in this country?”

Azhari emphasized the need for internal unity, stating, “If we don’t strengthen mutual understanding for the sake of peace and human rights, what meaningful impact can they really have here?”
