The holy month of Ramadan starts on Sunday.

The holy month of Ramadan for the year 1446 Hijri will commence in the country on Sunday following the sighting of the new moon in the sky of Bangladesh on Saturday.

The decision was announced during a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee, held in the conference room of the Islamic Foundation (IF) at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the evening. The meeting was presided over by Religious Affairs Adviser and National Moon Sighting Committee President, AFM Khalid Hossain, according to a press release.

As per the decision, the sacred night of Shab-e-Qadr, also known as Lailatul Qadr, which marks the revelation of the first verses of the Holy Quran to Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), will be observed on the night of March 27 (Thursday night).

During Ramadan, Muslims observe fasting from dawn to dusk, practicing self-restraint and devotion.

Ramadan, also referred to as Ramzan, is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, during which Muslims worldwide engage in prayers, fasting, charity, and religious observance.

To accommodate the holy month, government, semi-government, and private offices have adjusted their working hours accordingly.
