The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed former Australian pace ace Shaun Tait as the new fast bowling coach of the national team, succeeding outgoing coach Andre Adams.

Tait, 42, is set to link up with the squad later this month under a contract that runs through November 2027.

A pivotal member of Australia’s 2007 World Cup-winning team, Tait featured in 59 international matches and is widely regarded as one of the fastest bowlers to have played the game.

He brings a wealth of coaching experience to the role, having previously worked with the national teams of Pakistan, West Indies (Test side), and Afghanistan. His coaching résumé also includes stints across major franchise leagues such as the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Big Bash League (BBL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), Lankan Premier League (LPL), and English county cricket. Most recently, he served as head coach of the BPL’s Chittagong Kings—a team he also represented during the 2012–13 season.

Commenting on his new role, Tait said: “It’s a great time to be part of Bangladesh cricket—something of a new era. There’s been a lot of talk about the exciting young fast bowlers coming through, which is fantastic. But this is international cricket, not just development, so our focus has to be on converting that talent into results and wins.”

He added: “Working with Phil Simmons is another major plus, and I’m really looking forward to the journey ahead.”

Tait’s appointment follows the departure of New Zealand’s Andre Adams, who had joined the Bangladesh coaching staff in March 2024. The BCB stated that the two parties had mutually agreed to part ways.
