Shab-e-Barat is marked with prayers held at mosques
Shab-e-Barat is observed on the 14th night of Shaban in the Islamic (Hijri) calendar.

The holy night of Shab-e-Barat was observed across the country with prayers and supplications, as devoted Muslims gathered in mosques and homes to seek divine blessings. Throughout the night, worshippers engaged in voluntary prayers, Quran recitations, and supplications, with many also visiting the graves of their deceased loved ones. Shab-e-Barat, observed on the 14th night of Shaban in the Islamic (Hijri) calendar, is considered a night of forgiveness and mercy.
To mark the occasion, the Islamic Foundation organized various programs at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. The night-long observance featured waz, prayer gatherings, Quran recitations, and Hamd Naat sessions, concluding with the fajr prayer, led by Hafez Maulana Mufti Muhibullahil Baki, the head Imam of the mosque.
Earlier, Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain, advisor to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, delivered a speech on Laylatul Barat, explaining its significance according to the Quran and Hadith. Islamic Foundation Director General AS Salam Khan also spoke on the spiritual importance of the night.
Dr. Khalilur Rahman Madani, a member of the Islamic Foundation’s Board of Governors and acting principal of Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasa, delivered a sermon on the virtues of Laylatul Barat. Syed Mohammad Mosaddek Billah Al Madani, principal of Rashidiya Kamil Madrasa, discussed religious teachings and recommended actions for the night, while Baitul Mukarram’s Senior Pesh Imam Hafez Maulana Mufti Mizanur Rahman emphasized the importance of voluntary worship.
Mosques across Dhaka saw large numbers of devotees, who spent the night in prayer and reflection, many raising their hands in supplication for forgiveness and blessings.
In order to ensure safety and maintain the sanctity of the occasion, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) implemented special security measures. DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali issued a public notice prohibiting fireworks, firecrackers, and the sale, transport, or use of explosives within the metropolitan area. Additional police forces were deployed around key mosques, graveyards, and major roads to enforce the directive.
