Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Mahmud Hasan Khan today described the United States’ decision to reduce the reciprocal tariff on Bangladeshi exports to 20 percent as a significant relief for the country’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector.

He made the remarks during a press conference held at the BGMEA headquarters in Dhaka, which focused on the implications of the recent US tariff cut.

Expressing sincere appreciation to the interim government, Mahmud extended special thanks to the Commerce Adviser, National Security Adviser, and the entire negotiating team for their effective diplomacy in securing the tariff reduction.

While welcoming the move, the BGMEA President warned against becoming complacent, urging the industry to keep improving its global competitiveness and continue receiving strong policy support from the government.

He voiced hope that this breakthrough would not merely remove a trade barrier, but could usher in a new phase of growth through joint efforts by industry leaders, the government, labor groups, and civil society.

The press conference, chaired by Mahmud Hasan Khan, was also attended by Senior Vice-President Inamul Haque Khan (Bablu), Vice-President Md. Rezwan Selim, Vice-President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman, Vice-President Md. Shihab Uddoja Chowdhury, and Directors Shah Raed Chowdhury, Mohammad Abdur Rahim, Faisal Samad, Md. Hasib Uddin, Mohammad Abdus Salam, Nafis-ud-Doula, Majumder Arifur Rahman, Jowardar Mohammad Hosne Komar Alam, Asef Kamal Pasha, Rumana Rashid, and Samiha Azim.
