President urges moderate use of AI to preserve human creativity

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday called for the responsible and measured use of artificial intelligence (AI), warning that excessive reliance on the technology could undermine human creativity and thinking abilities.

He also urged universities to strengthen research and innovation in digital technology, AI, nanotechnology, biotechnology and semiconductor technology for the broader benefit of society.

The president made the remarks when a delegation led by Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Masud paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban in Dhaka on September 29, 2026.

President Mirza Fakhrul stressed the need to raise awareness to ensure that AI is not used indiscriminately or without proper oversight. He observed that uncontrolled dependence on AI could weaken people's ability to think independently and develop their creative potential.

He emphasised that AI should be utilised within reasonable limits and primarily for the welfare of the people.

During the meeting, the KUET vice-chancellor briefed the president on the university's overall academic activities and development initiatives.

The president said access to advanced education should not remain concentrated in the capital and called for greater decentralisation of higher education. He also underscored the need for universities to play a larger role in the country's research and development efforts.

The vice-chancellor formally invited the president, in his capacity as chancellor, to attend KUET's upcoming convocation. The president accepted the invitation and assured the delegation that he would attend the ceremony.

The president's Military Secretary, Secretary and Press Secretary, as well as several KUET professors, were present at the meeting.
