Petrol pumps across Bangladesh may shut down at any time
Petrol pumps across Bangladesh may shut down at any time.
The Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners’ Association has warned that filling stations across the country could shut down at any time amid a worsening fuel shortage.
In a statement issued on Sunday night, the association described the situation at petrol pumps nationwide as extremely critical. It said that the daily fuel supply from oil companies is far below what is needed to meet growing demand, according to a post on its official Facebook page.
The statement added that millions of motorcyclists are being forced to wait for hours to refuel, leaving them exhausted, frustrated, and increasingly agitated. Meanwhile, station staff—especially nozzle operators—are struggling to cope with the pressure, often facing disputes and confrontations with dissatisfied customers.
It further noted that workers are not accustomed to such prolonged and intense workloads. Overall, the situation has reached a breaking point, and filling stations may be compelled to shut down at any moment due to security concerns and inadequate fuel supply.
