"Interpol Issues Arrest Warrant for Saima Wazed Putul"

A court in Dhaka today issued an arrest warrant through Interpol against Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in a corruption case linked to the allocation of a 10-katha plot in Purbachal New Town.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain passed the order following a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Earlier, on April 10, the same court had issued arrest warrants for 18 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina and Saima Wazed, over allegations of fraud related to Purbachal plot allocations.

As Putul is currently residing abroad, the investigating officer sought an Interpol warrant to facilitate her arrest.

After a hearing, the court granted the request.

The case was originally filed on January 12, 2025, by ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya against Sheikh Hasina, Saima Wazed Putul, and 16 others over alleged irregularities in the 10-katha plot allocation in Purbachal.
