Government extends armed forces’ magistracy authority until February 28, 2026

The government has extended the executive magistracy powers of commissioned officers in the armed forces holding the rank of captain or its equivalent and above until February 28, 2026, effective from tomorrow.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration today, the same authority has also been granted to officers on deputation with the Bangladesh Coast Guard and Border Guard Bangladesh.

The notification stated that, under Sections 12(1) and 17 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, these officers will exercise special executive magistracy powers across the country for the specified period.

They have been empowered under Sections 64, 65, 83, 84, 86, 95(2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133, and 142 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.

Previously, on September 11 this year, the government had extended the magistracy powers of these officers for a period of 60 days.
