A government delegation is scheduled to visit the United States next week to participate in the third round of discussions aimed at addressing the ongoing tariff imbalance, Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin said on Monday.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Secretariat following a meeting with business leaders, the adviser described the negotiations with the US side as “optimistic” so far. The talks are focused on easing the recently announced 35% “reciprocal tariff” imposed by President Donald Trump.

Following the meeting, Bangladesh Knitwear Producers and Exporters Association President Hatem Ali expressed hope that the government's sincere efforts would lead to a favourable outcome for the business community.

President Trump has accused Bangladesh of taking advantage of the American market while maintaining high tariffs on US goods.

Adviser Bashir Uddin reaffirmed that the government is committed to narrowing the trade gap between the two countries through all possible means.
