Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman has reiterated Bangladesh’s firm commitment to combating racism in all its forms, noting that the country is a signatory to all major international conventions addressing racism and racial discrimination.

He urged stronger global action to eliminate racism, promote equality, and uphold human dignity.

The remarks were made during his address at a United Nations General Assembly commemorative meeting marking the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in New York on Monday, according to a message received this morning.

Referring to ongoing racial injustices in Rakhine and Gaza, Dr. Rahman stressed that the international community remains far from achieving the objectives set out in the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action.

He also drew attention to the challenges faced by migrant workers worldwide, including exclusion, exploitation, and limited access to justice, which he said undermine the core principles of the United Nations.

Reaffirming Bangladesh’s constitutional commitment to equality and human rights, the foreign minister highlighted ongoing efforts to foster inclusivity, peaceful coexistence, and stronger human rights institutions. He called for increased investment in education, firm measures against hate speech, and greater intercultural dialogue to build a world free from racism.
