Fakhrul accuses government of trying to distort Liberation War history
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that attempts are being made to erase the true history of Bangladesh’s Liberation War from the nation’s collective memory.
“It now seems as though we did nothing for the country, while all the glory is being attributed to the 2024 movement. We may remember 2024, but we can never forget the thousands who sacrificed their lives in 1971,” he said.
Fakhrul made the remarks on Monday morning while speaking at a views-exchange meeting with freedom fighters and their descendants at the Thakurgaon District Freedom Fighters Complex.
He further claimed that certain groups who had sided with the Pakistan army during the Liberation War are once again seeking to assert dominance by exploiting the religious sentiments of the Muslim majority.
On the upcoming election, the BNP leader warned of a conspiracy to derail the polls, cautioning that any delay could spell disaster for the country.
Freedom Fighters’ Central Command Council convener Naeem Jahangir, local freedom fighter commanders, and district BNP leaders also attended the event.
