EC Masud: No legal obstacle for Tarique to become a voter
Earlier, Salahuddin Ahmed said Tarique Rahman would be registered as a voter on Saturday.
Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud has said there is no legal impediment to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman being registered as a voter.
He added that the Election Commission has the authority to register any eligible individual as a voter at any time, if it so chooses.
Speaking to reporters on Friday afternoon, Masud said he could not confirm whether Tarique Rahman would visit the Election Commission office on Saturday (28 December) to complete the registration process.
Tarique Rahman returned home on Thursday after 17 years in exile.
Earlier, on 22 December, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin that Tarique Rahman would be registered as a voter on Saturday (27 December) following his return.
