Dozens of UN envoys walk out during Netanyahu’s speech

Dozens of diplomats from around the world walked out of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s UN speech on Thursday in protest against his presence.

Delegates jeered and booed as Netanyahu began speaking, while members of his own delegation stood and applauded. The session’s presiding officer repeatedly called for order.

Addressing those who remained, Netanyahu said, “If there are any other moral cowards who haven’t left this hall, please do so now.”

The hall, which had been sparsely occupied earlier, gradually filled ahead of Netanyahu’s address.

The Palestinian delegation had urged other missions to join the walkout in a memo seen by AFP.
