National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz said today that the commission is not imposing any decisions, but rather proposing amendments based on the sentiments and feedback of political parties across various issues.

“At the heart of our proposals is the fact that most parties have expressed reservations about the National Constitutional Council,” he said at the start of the 10th day of the second phase of political party dialogues at the Doel Hall of the Foreign Service Academy.

Representatives from 30 political parties—including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizen Party (NCP), Gono Odhikar Parishad, Gono Sanghati Andolon, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Biplobi Workers Party, and the Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party—took part in today’s discussions with the National Consensus Commission.

The day’s agenda focused on three key issues: expanding subordinate courts to the upazila level, declaring a state of emergency, and women’s representation.

Commission members Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, Dr. Md. Ayub Mia, and Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Monir Haidar were present.

Riaz stressed that the commission is carefully observing the positions of political parties to avoid misunderstandings.

“For that reason, we are leaving out several matters from the discussion,” he noted.

Describing the conversations with political leaders as constructive, Riaz said the dialogue process should continue, and collective cooperation is essential to completing the commission’s work efficiently.
