Chief Adviser seeks update on Nur’s treatment, pledges impartial investigation

Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has inquired about the health and treatment of Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur.

Around 1:00pm on Saturday, Dr Yunus called Nur—who is receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital—expressing concern for his condition. During the conversation, he assured that a fair investigation would be conducted into Friday night’s incident and that appropriate action would follow.

The matter was confirmed by Abu Hanif, senior council member and media coordinator of Gono Odhikar Parishad. He said Dr Yunus sought details about Nur’s current health and listened to his account of the previous night’s events, assuring that those responsible would be held accountable.

On Friday night, over fifty leaders and activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad, including its president, were injured after members of the army and police allegedly attacked them in front of Al Razi Tower at Bijoynagar, following clashes between Jatiya Party and Gono Odhikar Parishad supporters.

The attack has drawn condemnation from several political parties, including the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, which issued statements denouncing the incident.
