Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus convened a high-level meeting on Tuesday night with four major political parties at the state guesthouse Jamuna, in what appears to be a move toward building broader consensus amid deepening political uncertainty.

The meeting, which began at 9 PM, brought together senior representatives from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, the National Citizen Party (NCP), and Islami Andolon Bangladesh, according to a press release from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.

BNP was represented by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury. Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Abdullah Mohammad Taher and Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad attended on behalf of their party.

The National Citizen Party, which has recently gained prominence in national politics, was represented by Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain. Islami Andolon Bangladesh was represented by Presidium Member Professor Ashraf Ali Akon and Joint Secretary General Gazi Ataur Rahman.

This initiative by the Chief Adviser comes in response to growing public calls for transparency, electoral reforms, and political stability in the aftermath of the July uprising and the collapse of the previous authoritarian regime.

Although the specific agenda has not been made public, political sources indicate the discussions likely touched on the upcoming national elections, mechanisms for building trust among political actors, and possible transitional governance arrangements.

As of now, no official statement has been issued by the Chief Adviser’s Office regarding the outcome of the meeting.
