Bangladeshi entrepreneurs can now directly sell their products on global e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Alibaba

Bangladeshi entrepreneurs and businesses will now be able to sell their products directly on major global e-commerce platforms, including Amazon, eBay, Alibaba, and Flipkart.

Bangladesh Bank has authorised exporters to send goods abroad through Amazon and eBay, according to a circular issued on Monday (24 November) by its Foreign Exchange Policy Department. The new directive opens the door for local exporters to tap into leading international online marketplaces.

To boost participation in global online markets, Bangladesh Bank has introduced a new policy measure allowing exports under a Business-to-Business-to-Consumer (B2B2C) model. The move aims to make cross-border e-commerce more streamlined and accessible.

Under the circular, authorised dealer (AD) banks can now process export transactions in which a foreign consignee acts as an intermediary platform or marketplace rather than the final buyer. This enables Bangladeshi exporters to ship goods through platforms such as Amazon, eBay, Alibaba, Etsy, or via international subsidiaries and third-party warehouses.

Exporters must provide proof of registration with the respective global platform or warehouse to their AD bank. As traditional sales contracts are often absent in B2B2C arrangements, exporters may declare the fair value of goods based on a pro forma invoice.

The circular also states that if the consignee serves only as a service provider, AD banks may accept shipping documents issued in the consignee’s name.
