49 Arrested Across Bangladesh Over Vandalism During Anti-Israel Protests
Police Confirm Detentions Following Unrest in Multiple Cities
Police have detained 49 individuals in connection with the vandalism of shops and business establishments in Sylhet and several other cities across Bangladesh. The arrests were officially confirmed on Tuesday by Enamul Haque Sagar, Assistant Inspector General (Media and PR) at the Police Headquarters. According to the statement, the individuals were apprehended on Monday in relation to acts of vandalism during widespread protests.
Businesses Linked to Israel Targeted During Demonstrations
On Monday, nationwide protests erupted condemning Israeli military actions in Gaza. Mobs targeted Israeli-linked businesses, including outlets of Bata, KFC, and Pizza Hut in Bogra, Sylhet, Cox’s Bazar, and other districts. The demonstrations were held to protest the violence in Palestine and to demand a boycott of Israeli products.
Student-Led Protest in Bogra Turns Violent
In Bogra city, a large student-led rally took place in the afternoon. Protesters marched from various educational institutions and converged at Satmatha, the city’s central intersection. During the protest, the demonstrators broke into the Bata showroom and smashed its glass walls. Equipped with banners, placards, and festoons, the protesters raised strong slogans condemning the killings in Gaza and called for an immediate ban on Israeli-affiliated products.
