Bangladesh has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing women’s justice and empowerment on the global stage.

Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman has reaffirmed Bangladesh’s firm commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women, with a particular focus on ensuring access to justice for women and girls at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.

He made the statement while presenting Bangladesh’s national address at the 70th session of the commission, held at United Nations Headquarters in New York City on Tuesday, according to a message received today.

The minister reiterated Bangladesh’s strong commitment to advancing the objectives of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

He emphasized that guaranteeing justice for women and girls remains a key national priority.

Dr Rahman also highlighted the notable role of Bangladeshi women in United Nations peacekeeping missions.

He pointed out that ongoing challenges—including climate change, economic instability, conflicts, and the digital divide—continue to disproportionately affect women, particularly those in rural and vulnerable communities.

To tackle these issues, Bangladesh proposed strengthening justice systems through greater inclusion of women in leadership roles, alongside enhanced regional and international cooperation to combat human trafficking.

The CSW70 session is taking place from March 9 to 19, 2026, in New York, with a focus on improving access to justice, eliminating discriminatory laws, and addressing structural barriers facing women and girls worldwide.
