The government is set to launch a three-month training programme for 1.5 lakh police personnel on election duties starting this September.

In addition, 60,000 army personnel will be deployed during the election period to help maintain law and order and ensure the safety of voters, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam told reporters.

Earlier in the day, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus chaired a high-level review meeting at the state guest house Jamuna to assess the law-and-order situation and the readiness of law enforcement agencies ahead of the upcoming national election.

Speaking to the media at the Foreign Service Academy after the meeting, Alam said preparations by the police were a key focus of the discussion.

“The Inspector General of Police informed the meeting that 1.5 lakh officers will undergo specialised training for election duties beginning next month,” he said.

He added that the training will run through September, October, and November.

In response to a question, Alam confirmed that 60,000 members of the army will also be deployed during the polls.
