Measles-Like Symptoms Claim Two More Lives; 1,300 Fresh Cases Recorded
Health authorities detected 53 new confirmed measles cases over the last 24 hours.
Two more people exhibiting measles symptoms died in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, according to the latest update from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
However, no deaths from laboratory-confirmed measles were reported during the same period.
In its latest situation report released on Sunday afternoon, the DGHS said 1,377 people were affected by measles or measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours.
The report noted that 1,324 children were identified as suspected measles cases during the reporting period. Since 15 March, the nationwide tally of suspected measles cases has climbed to 70,936.
According to the DGHS, 495 people have died with suspected measles symptoms since the outbreak began, while 90 deaths have been confirmed through laboratory testing.
Meanwhile, 53 new confirmed measles cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of confirmed infections to 9,049.
Health Directorate data further showed that between 15 March and 30 May, a total of 56,886 patients with suspected measles were admitted to hospitals across the country. Of them, 52,841 have recovered and been discharged.
Health authorities said they are continuing to monitor the outbreak closely and urged people to ensure vaccination and follow preventive health guidelines to help contain the spread of the disease.
