Adilur Rahman Khan, adviser to the Ministries of Housing and Public Works, Industries, and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, on Tuesday urged citizens to vote “Yes” in the February 12 referendum to uphold the spirit of a new Bangladesh.

Speaking as the chief guest at a public awareness meeting on the referendum organised by the Cox’s Bazar district administration at the Public Library Hall, he said the July Charter and the vision of a new Bangladesh were achieved through the sacrifices of the July martyrs and fighters.

He stressed that Bangladesh must be free from fascism, discrimination, enforced disappearances and crossfire killings, and added that equal rights for all ethnic communities would be ensured.

The meeting, chaired by Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Md A Mannan, was attended by senior officials, members of civil society and people from various walks of life.

Following the event, the adviser inaugurated the “Voter Gari” for the referendum at the deputy commissioner’s office premises.
