No conspiracy can silence BNP: Tarique Rahman

BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman has said that no conspiracy will be able to keep the party suppressed.

He made the remarks on Saturday (17 January) at a discussion meeting organised by Amra BNP Paribar and Mayer Daak at the China Friendship International Conference Center in the capital. The event was attended by family members of victims of enforced disappearances and killings.

Tarique Rahman said, “For many years, I was forced to stay away from my country, relatives, and people. Alongside party leaders and activists, there are countless bereaved families across the country. From abroad, I tried to help build street movements against autocracy. Within our limitations, we stood by the families who lost their loved ones. Whether we were fully successful is a different matter, but there was no lack of sincerity. Despite constraints, our efforts have continued and will continue in the future.”

He added, “Thousands of our leaders and activists were tortured. Many became victims of enforced disappearance, and some of their family members are present here today. During the fascist period, more than 150,000 false cases were filed against BNP leaders and activists, placing the burden on nearly six million party members. Hundreds of thousands of activists were forced to leave their homes for years, and the cases filed against them were politically motivated.”
