A 4.9-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar sent tremors across parts of Chattogram.
A moderate earthquake struck near Falam in Myanmar shortly before 1:00am on Tuesday, with tremors felt across parts of Chattogram.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the quake occurred at 12:55am Bangladesh time and measured 4.9 on the Richter scale.
Its epicentre was 81.8km east of Falam in Myanmar’s Chin State, and the tremor originated at a depth of around 106.8km.
Residents in Chattogram said they felt the shaking, though no casualties or damage have been reported so far, bdnews24.com said.
The incident comes less than two weeks after a 5.7-magnitude earthquake on November 21 that rattled much of Bangladesh and became one of the deadliest in recent decades, killing at least 10 people.
A series of minor aftershocks in the following days further heightened public concern.
