Tigers lose two wickets by Tea
Bangladesh quickly lost two wickets in their second innings, with Kagiso Rabada dismissing Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque within four deliveries. By Tea on Day 2 of the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, the hosts were struggling at 19-2.
Shadman was caught at short leg by Tony de Zorzi for three after failing to handle Rabada's steep bounce. Shortly after, Mominul edged a delivery to the slip cordon, where Wiaan Mulder took a sharp low catch, dismissing him for a three-ball duck.
Despite the early blows, opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto managed to navigate the next four overs, preventing further damage before the break.
Earlier in the session, South Africa were bowled out for 308, securing a commanding 202-run lead in the first innings. Kyle Verreynne’s brilliant knock of 114, supported by partnerships with Wiaan Mulder (54) and Dane Piedt (32), helped extend the Proteas’ lead.
Verreynne was the last man out, stumped off Mehedi Hasan Miraz, who claimed two wickets. Hasan Mahmud finished with three wickets, two of which came today, while Taijul Islam remained wicketless after taking five the previous day.
Bangladesh, all out for a paltry 106 in their first innings, now face a challenging task of significantly improving that total to stay in the match.
