The new election commissioners are set to take their oaths of office on Sunday

• The commission will be led by AMM Nasir Uddin.
• It will be responsible for overseeing the next election.

The new Election Commission, headed by former secretary AMM Nasir Uddin, is set to take its oath of office on Sunday. 

Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed will administer the oath to the new Chief Election Commissioner and four other commissioners at 1:30 p.m. that day, according to several Supreme Court sources confirmed on Friday.

The previous commission, led by Kazi Habibul Awal, resigned on September 5, following the ousting of the Awami League government a month earlier.

Two and a half months later, on Thursday, President Mohammed Sahabuddin appointed a new five-member Election Commission under the leadership of AMM Nasir Uddin.

The new commission also includes former additional secretary Anwarul Islam Sarker, former district and sessions judge Abdur Rahman Masud, former joint secretary Tahmida Ahmad, and Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah as commissioners.

This commission will be responsible for organizing the upcoming general election.
