Samsung says planning job cuts in Asia

Samsung Electronics announced plans to reduce its workforce in parts of Asia, following a report suggesting that up to 10 percent of jobs in those regions could be affected. The world's leading memory chipmaker is adjusting staffing levels in Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, including implementing job cuts, as confirmed by a company spokesperson. Although the company clarified that it has not set a specific target for job reductions, Bloomberg reported potential layoffs impacting approximately 10 percent of the workforce in those areas. Samsung, headquartered in Suwon, employs over 267,800 people, with more than half located outside South Korea. These layoffs come shortly after U.S. chipmaker Intel announced plans to reduce over 15 percent of its workforce in response to operational challenges and financial losses.
