Postgraduate doctors stage protest at Shahbagh, calling for an increase in stipends
Postgraduate private trainee doctors staged a protest at Shahbagh intersection this afternoon, demanding an increase in their monthly stipends from Tk 25,000 to Tk 50,000. The demonstration brought traffic to a standstill, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
The protesters stated they initially gathered at BSMMU around 10:00 am before marching to the intersection. Dr. Mustafizur Rahman, one of the protesters, told The Daily Star that their demands for a stipend hike have been ignored for a long time. "We will continue our protest here until our demand is met," he asserted.
According to the protesting doctors, their current stipend is inadequate, especially with the rising cost of essential goods.
