Next elections will be conducted using traditional ballots instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs), says the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC)
The Election Commission is not prioritizing local elections.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin announced on Tuesday that the upcoming general elections, expected by mid-2026, will use traditional ballots instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs) to ensure greater transparency.
He further stated that the Election Commission is currently focused on preparing for the general elections, with local elections not being a priority at the moment, as Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus has yet to set a timeframe for them.
Speaking to reporters at his office in the capital, the CEC emphasized that constituency boundaries would be drawn fairly, without adhering to any historical standards. He assured that any allegations of gerrymandering would be thoroughly investigated.
Additionally, he revealed that the final voter list would be published within two months, following comprehensive door-to-door visits to verify and register all eligible voters.
