Lalmonirhat Assistant Commissioner suspended over Facebook post controversy

Taposhee Tabassum Urmi, assistant commissioner at the Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner's Office, has been suspended by the Ministry of Public Administration. The suspension comes along with the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against her, according to a statement from the ministry's public relations office. Urmi had previously been transferred to the Rangpur Divisional Commissioner's Office and made an officer on special duty (OSD) due to her controversial Facebook posts and criticism of the chief adviser.
Following her transfer, she was relieved of her duties at the Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner's Office. Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner HM Raqib Hayder stated that her Facebook posts had come to the attention of higher government authorities.
On Saturday, Urmi posted on Facebook claiming that the interim government had no constitutional basis, addressing Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus with the remark, "The countdown has begun for you, sir." When contacted, Urmi mentioned that she had deleted the post and insisted there was no pressure from higher authorities regarding it.
Lalmonirhat DC Hayder emphasized that such remarks from a government official were a clear violation of the code of conduct. Urmi had joined the Lalmonirhat district administration as an assistant commissioner on December 8, 2022.
