EC Secretary: 5 million voters included in the updated list

The Election Commission (EC) gathered data on 4,970,388 individuals during its recent voter list update program. These individuals will be added as new voters once the registration process is complete.  

Additionally, the EC identified 1.52 million deceased voters, who will be removed from the updated voter lists. EC Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhter Ahmed shared this information with journalists during a press briefing at the EC office in Dhaka on Tuesday. The door-to-door voter list update program took place from January 20 to February 3.  

He emphasized that the figures are not final and may increase. The EC had set a target of registering 6.1 million new voters this year, with the voter count rising by 3.09 percent.  

However, he noted that the number of deceased voters recorded this time is lower than that of the last door-to-door update conducted three years ago.  

Akhter Ahmed also mentioned that voter registration will continue until April 17, allowing eligible individuals to register within this period. Additionally, online registration remains open year-round for those eligible to vote.
