Chinese Ambassador Highlights Deepening Friendship Between China and Bangladesh
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, expressed his strong sense of the "genuine friendship" extended by the Bangladeshi government and its people towards China during recent engagements with the interim government, political parties, students, and various communities.
"Everyone views China as a true and trustworthy friend," the ambassador stated during the 2024 Reunion for Bangladeshi Persons in China event held in Dhaka on Sunday. He added, "They hope for greater support and assistance from China while showing enthusiasm to further strengthen our bilateral relationship."
The event was attended by Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin, Economic Relations Division Asia, JEC and F&F Wing Chief Additional Secretary Mirana Mahrukh, Deputy Inspector General of Police Md Rezaul Karim, and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General Syed Jamil Ahmed, among others.
Ambassador Yao highlighted the significance of the reunion as a platform to reflect on past achievements, plan future cooperation, and renew friendships among representatives from diverse sectors.
Strengthening Ties and Historic Milestones
“This year marks a historic chapter in China-Bangladesh relations as our bilateral ties reached a new milestone with the elevation to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership,” Yao remarked. He noted that the relationship has remained steady and robust despite evolving international and political landscapes in Bangladesh.
Using the metaphor of a "giant ship," he likened the relationship to one that has successfully navigated through regional and global changes while maintaining its course.
Yao emphasized that the historical friendship between the two nations spans over a millennium. “Despite differences in race, belief, and language, we have always upheld peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation,” he said.
The ambassador pointed out that the enduring principles of mutual respect and equality have fostered strong ties between the peoples of both nations, contributing significantly to regional peace, stability, and development. “Together, we must write new chapters of China-Bangladesh friendship,” he urged.
Upcoming Milestones and Cultural Exchanges
Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, designated as the “Year of People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges.” The Chinese embassy plans to leverage this opportunity to enhance engagement, with more Bangladeshi delegations visiting China to deepen understanding and appreciation of the country.
Similarly, the ambassador stated that efforts will be made to encourage more Chinese delegations to visit Bangladesh, promote investments by Chinese enterprises, and facilitate academic exchanges for students.
“Standing at this new historical juncture, China is ready to join hands with our Bangladeshi friends to move forward together, overcome challenges, and steer the ship of China-Bangladesh friendship toward an even brighter future,” Yao concluded.
