A committee has been established to investigate the allocation of plots to Sheikh Hasina and her family members

The High Court has established a three-member committee to investigate all illegal plot allocations by Rajuk, including those granted to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family in Purbachal. 

The order was issued on Thursday by a High Court bench led by Justice Fatema Najib. The committee will be chaired by Justice (Retd) Md Miftah Uddin Choudhury and is required to submit its report within four months.

On September 10, Muhammad Misbah Uddin filed a petition on behalf of ten Supreme Court lawyers, seeking the cancellation of 60 kathas of plots allocated to Hasina and her family in Purbachal, as well as all other illegal allocations by the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk). 

The petition also called for legal action against those involved in and benefiting from these illegal allocations under the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Act and requested that a committee led by a former High Court judge be formed to investigate the issue.

Following the petition, lawyer Mohammad Misbah Uddin informed reporters that Hasina had been allocated a plot in Rajuk's Purbachal New Town Project. He mentioned that her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, her daughter Saima Wazed, her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, and Rehana's two children had also received plots.

The petition alleges that these plots were allocated in 2022 and treated as a state secret, keeping the information from most, including those within Rajuk.

Advocate Misbah also cited reports from national newspapers, highlighting that despite Hasina’s public claims of poverty, she managed to secure a 10-katha plot for herself in the planned diplomatic zone of Purbachal. This specific plot, located on Road 203 in Sector 27, is numbered 009, with the allocation letter issued by Rajuk on August 3, 2022.
