13th Jatiya Sangsad holds its inaugural session

The inaugural session of Bangladesh’s 13th Parliament began at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka on Thursday, marking the formal commencement of the country’s new legislature.

The sitting started at 11:00am in the presence of the newly elected members of parliament following the February 12 general election, widely regarded as the country’s first credible national polls in more than 15 years.

During today’s session, the parliament is also expected to elect a new Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
