A two-day Zambia-Bangladesh Business Forum, Dhaka 2025 is set to begin on May 14 at the Banani Sheraton Hotel, aiming to strengthen trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the two nations. The event will be inaugurated by Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin, who will attend as the chief guest, and will feature participation from a high-level business delegation from Zambia.

The forum is being jointly organized by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) of Bangladesh, the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry of Zambia, and the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA), in collaboration with the Consulate of Zambia in Bangladesh, the High Commission of Zambia in New Delhi, and the Non-Resident High Commission of Bangladesh in Zambia.

Sector experts from diverse industries—including apparel, leather, pharmaceuticals, ICT, plastics, and furniture—will speak at the event. According to Abu Mukhles Alamgir Hossain, Director (Policy and Planning, Current Charge) of EPB, the forum aims to connect government officials, business leaders, investors, and entrepreneurs from both countries to explore joint opportunities and partnerships.

Highlighting the historical ties, he noted that Zambia and Bangladesh have maintained cordial diplomatic relations since 1971, and are both members of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Commonwealth. This forum seeks to build upon these relations and unlock new avenues of cooperation, especially in trade and investment.

The discussions will focus on key sectors such as agriculture and agri-logistics, garment and textile manufacturing, energy and renewable energy, infrastructure development, fisheries and livestock, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The forum is expected to result in increased trade flows, the identification of collaborative opportunities, and the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements between Zambian and Bangladeshi businesses.

Dr. Mohd Zayed Alam, Consul of Zambia in Bangladesh, emphasized that the forum will play a crucial role in fostering bilateral trade and economic ties, given the longstanding friendly relations and shared business and cultural values between the two countries. On May 15, the Zambian delegation will also visit several factories in Bangladesh to gain firsthand insights into the country's industrial capabilities.

Dr. Alam further noted that Bangladesh has rapidly emerged as an economic force in South Asia, with impressive achievements in sectors such as ready-made garments, ICT, pharmaceuticals, and agro-products. He added that forums like this are essential to enhance Bangladesh’s global image and promote its unique strengths on the international stage.
