The Government of Bangladesh and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) of the Republic of Korea today signed the Record of Discussion (RoD) and Terms of Reference (ToR) for a project titled “Education and Research Capacity Building of the National Institute of Advanced Nursing Education and Research (NIANER) in Bangladesh.”

Under the agreement, KOICA will provide a grant of US$5.9 million for the project, which will be implemented by the Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery under the Medical Education and Family Welfare Division, according to an ERD press release.

Mirana Mahrukh, Additional Secretary and Wing Chief (Asia, JEC and F&F) of the Economic Relations Division (ERD), signed on behalf of Bangladesh, while Jihoon Kim, Country Director of KOICA, signed on behalf of the Republic of Korea.

The project aims to strengthen nursing education and research by establishing a platform for developing high-quality nursing faculty through the operation of a PhD programme and advanced training in nursing at NIANER.

This marks the first initiative in Bangladesh’s history to introduce a PhD programme for nurses.
