Clash at Under-Construction Air Force Base in Cox’s Bazar: One Dead, Several Injured
- A violent clash erupted at the under-construction Air Force base on the western side of Cox’s Bazar Airport, resulting in the death of a youth and injuries to several others after Air Force personnel opened fire.
- The incident took place around 12 PM on Monday in Samiti Para under Cox’s Bazar municipality.
- The deceased has been identified as Shihab Kabir Nahid (30), son of local businessman Nasir Uddin. The identities of the injured are yet to be confirmed.
- While police and administrative officials have not disclosed full details, they have confirmed the incident.
- Saiful Islam, in charge of the police box at Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital, stated that one person was killed, and five others are receiving treatment.
- Mujahidul Islam, a resident of Samiti Para, reported that a meeting was scheduled between Air Force officials and local representatives at the district administration office regarding land acquisition for relocation.
- Around noon, Md Zahid and others were traveling to the district administration office when their vehicle was stopped at an Air Force checkpost near Diabetic Point.
- Air Force personnel forced Zahid out of the vehicle, sparking an argument. As they attempted to detain him, locals gathered in protest, leading to a clash.
- Air Force personnel fired blank shots to disperse the crowd, injuring at least 10-15 people. Several injured were taken to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital, where one was declared dead.
- Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salauddin confirmed the death and injuries, stating that discussions will be held with both sides to take necessary actions.
- Meanwhile, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that a group of miscreants from Samiti Para attacked the Cox’s Bazar Air Force Base, prompting necessary response measures by the Bangladesh Air Force.
