Referendum Must Be Held Before National Election: Jamaat’s Taher
If ghee doesn’t come out with a straight finger, we’ll bend it, he warned.
Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has warned that the hard-won achievements of July will not be allowed to go in vain, declaring that his party is ready to shed blood or even sacrifice their lives again if needed.
“If ghee doesn’t come out with a straight finger, we’ll bend it. We must get the ghee,” Taher said.
He made the remarks on Thursday (November 6) during a brief rally in Paltan before submitting a memorandum to the Chief Adviser as part of a pre-announced programme.
Taher stressed that a referendum must be held before the national election, insisting, “No tricks—only a fair referendum. The dialogue must start immediately, and the government must play its part.”
He added that the government should serve as a neutral referee in the dialogue among political parties. “We have already formed a committee for inter-party dialogue,” he said. “We urge the BNP to also take the initiative and join the talks.”
Party leaders reiterated that both the referendum and necessary reforms must be completed before any election, warning that they would not tolerate any delay tactics.
