Prime Minister Tarique Rahman launches the Canal Excavation Programme 2026

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday inaugurated the Canal Excavation Programme 2026 as part of the government’s efforts to bolster environmental protection and strengthen climate resilience.

The programme was formally launched in Dinajpur at around 12:30pm.

According to a message from the Prime Minister’s Office, the initiative fulfils the government’s election pledge to excavate and re-excavate rivers, canals and other water bodies across the country. Officials said the programme is intended to improve water management, safeguard the environment and enhance Bangladesh’s capacity to deal with the impacts of climate change.
