Police have implemented comprehensive security arrangements in the capital and across the country to ensure that people can celebrate Pohela Boishakh—the first day of the Bangla New Year 1432—on Monday in a festive and peaceful atmosphere.

“We have already taken extensive measures to guarantee foolproof security nationwide, allowing for a safe and joyous celebration of Pohela Boishakh,” said Enamul Haque Sagor, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Media at the Police Headquarters, in a statement to BSS on Sunday. He emphasized that equal attention has been given to all areas while formulating the security plans.

However, additional emphasis has been placed on major cities such as Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, and Barishal.

When asked about potential threats during the celebrations, Sagor responded, “There is no specific threat, but we remain vigilant.”

Sagor, who also serves as the spokesperson for Bangladesh Police, noted that a significant number of law enforcement personnel, both in uniform and plainclothes, have been deployed throughout Dhaka and other regions to ensure a peaceful celebration.

All units of the Bangladesh Police have received necessary directives in this regard, he added.

Intelligence surveillance has been ramped up, particularly in larger cities. Special priority has been given to the “Ananda Shobhajatra,” the central feature of the Pohela Boishakh festivities, in designing the security strategy.

On Sunday, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) issued two sets of guidelines focusing on traffic management and ensuring the smooth and orderly conduct of the Ananda Shobhajatra.
