The body of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) this evening aboard a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight amid tight security and an outpouring of public grief.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG 585, carrying Hadi’s body from Singapore—where he died while undergoing treatment—landed at HSIA at 5:49pm, airline officials said.

The aircraft departed Singapore Changi International Airport at 4:03pm local time (2:03pm Dhaka time) and arrived in Dhaka with the body on board.

Biman took all necessary steps to ensure the smooth and dignified repatriation of the martyred leader’s body, Biman General Manager (Public Relations) Boshra Islam told BSS.

The body was scheduled to be brought out through Gate No. 8 of the airport, where large contingents of the Bangladesh Army, Armed Forces Battalion (AFB) and police were deployed to maintain security.

Sharif Osman Hadi passed away at Singapore General Hospital, prompting widespread mourning among political leaders, Inqilab Mancha activists and the general public.

In a Facebook post, Inqilab Mancha said Allah had accepted the prominent revolutionary Osman Hadi as a martyr in the struggle against Indian hegemony.

The organisation also announced that his janaza would be held in Bangladesh on Saturday after Zuhr prayers at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital.

Following Hadi’s death, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus declared a one-day state mourning on Saturday.

On December 12, Hadi sustained critical head injuries after being shot by assailants while campaigning in Old Paltan in the capital.

After receiving initial treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Evercare Hospital, he was airlifted to Singapore by air ambulance on December 15 for advanced treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
