Dhaka burst into jubilation today as Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman returned home, welcomed by a vast sea of supporters waving flags and chanting slogans in a charged display of enthusiasm.

His arrival marked a historic and deeply emotional moment in Bangladesh’s political landscape, transforming the capital into a city of celebration filled with excitement, devotion, and joy. More than a political event, the homecoming resonated as a powerful symbol for thousands who gathered to witness it.

From the early hours of the morning, areas around Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and the 300-feet road were teeming with supporters and party leaders. Thousands lined both sides of the airport road to greet their leader, many of whom had traveled overnight from different parts of the country. By dawn, the 300-feet road, its adjoining lanes, and nearby streets were packed with people, creating a river of anticipation and excitement.

As the morning wore on, the crowds continued to swell, turning the key thoroughfares into a vibrant and festive spectacle. Leaders and activists from various districts and thanas arrived with party flags, banners, placards, and flowers, chanting slogans such as “Tarique Rahman Asche, Ma-Mati Dakche,” “Ajker Ei Dine, Shaheed Zia Mone Pore,” “Tomar Amar Marka, Dhaner Shis Marka,” “Tarique Rahmaner Agomon, Shubhechha Swagatam,” and “Desh Neta Asche, Bangladesh Kapche.”

BNP leaders and activists from the Dhaka North City unit positioned themselves in areas adjacent to the airport, while those from the Dhaka South City unit lined both sides of the road from Khilkhet to the 300-feet road near the Bashundhara Residential Area.

When Tarique Rahman’s aircraft first appeared in the sky, the crowd erupted in thunderous cheers. Cries of “Welcome, welcome, Tarique Rahman welcome!” and “Tarique Rahman is the soul of Bangladesh!” echoed through the air as supporters waved national and party flags and held banners aloft, eager for a glimpse of their leader.

Among them was Imran Hossain, a university student from Rajshahi, who said, “I have never seen Tarique Rahman in person before. Standing here today with thousands of others, it feels like we are witnessing history. The energy and hope are overwhelming.” Sana Ullah from Kushtia added, “Four of us traveled overnight just to see him. For years we only saw him on screens—today we are part of the celebration in real life.”

Across areas including Purbachal, Bashundhara Residential Area, Banani, and Jamuna Future Park, smaller processions moved to the rhythm of drums, music, and chants. Street vendors sold food and water to sustain the crowds, while trucks fitted with loudspeakers played patriotic and party songs, amplifying the festive mood. Volunteers guided supporters to maintain order, and security forces ensured the smooth flow of the massive gathering.

Subid Master from Patuakhali, who arrived with his two sons and a nephew, said, “For sixteen years, we watched Tarique Rahman endure political persecution. Seeing him here today is a moment of hope and affection for us and thousands like me. This is more than politics—it is an emotional bond.”

Other entry points to the capital, including Sadarghat Terminal, Syedabad, Gabtoli, and Meradia-Demra, were equally animated. Supporters from southern districts arrived by launch, while reception booths and volunteers were arranged to welcome them. Streets, intersections, and public spaces across Dhaka buzzed with processions, chants, and music, united by a single message: “The leader is coming.”

After landing, Tarique Rahman attended a public gathering at the July 36 Expressway, where he addressed millions of supporters. Walking along the route toward Evercare Hospital, he waved repeatedly to the crowd, acknowledging their unwavering support.

Earlier, he received a warm and emotional reception at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after arriving from London. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir led members of the party’s standing committee in welcoming him at the VVIP lounge. Visibly moved, Tarique Rahman greeted them with smiles and handshakes.

Following the airport formalities, he began his journey to the 36 Expressway venue by bus under tight security. Before departing, he stepped barefoot onto the dew-covered grass, lifted a handful of soil, and brought it to his face in an emotional gesture. Escorted by a motorcade, his bus made its way along the airport road toward the 300-feet road, as millions of supporters lining both sides greeted him with resounding chants and applause.
