Election Commission (EC) Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed today said there is no reason yet to panic or be concerned about the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

“So far, there is no cause for panic or concern,” he told journalists at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon.

Regarding preparations, Akhtar Ahmed said, “It is not necessary for everything to be completed exactly as per the EC’s initial plan. Certain adjustments are made depending on the situation.”

“Some tasks have already been completed, while others are still underway and will require a bit more time. Not every activity can be executed strictly according to fixed dates and times,” he added.

He said the list of polling centres has been finalized, while the registration of political parties and the final list of polling centres will be completed within this week.

On the registration of new political parties, he said, “We are receiving information from the field regarding party registrations, which are currently being reviewed. Hopefully, we will complete the process within this week.”

Referring to BNP’s objection letter over the amendment to the Representation of the People Order (RPO), Akhtar Ahmed said, “BNP has sent a letter expressing its objection to the RPO issue. The Commission will take a decision on this matter.”
