A huge fire erupted at a gas filling station in the Kolatoli area of Cox’s Bazar town after a gas leak, injuring nine people, including four Fire Service personnel.

Seven units from the Fire Service and Civil Defence, supported by an Army firefighting team, were dispatched to the spot to control the blaze.

Officer-in-Charge Chhami Uddin of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station confirmed the incident.

Police said a leak was detected in the station’s gas line on Wednesday (25 February) evening. At about 10:30pm, a powerful explosion rocked the premises, sparking a large fire. Firefighters from seven units, along with the Army team, immediately began efforts to extinguish the flames. Although the fire’s intensity had decreased by around 11:30pm, it was not fully under control at that time.

The blaze destroyed seven to eight vehicles parked at the filling station and caused panic in nearby areas, including the adjacent Adarsha Gram neighbourhood.

During the firefighting operation, four firefighters and five other individuals suffered burn injuries, raising the total number of injured to nine. The victims were taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. Among them, one critically injured person was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, while four others were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, police added.
