NCP striving for an equal, democratic Bangladesh: Nahid Islam

The National Citizens Party (NCP) is committed to building an equal and democratic Bangladesh for farmers, workers, students, and ordinary citizens, said Nahid Islam, the party’s convenor.

Addressing a public rally in Thakurgaon on Friday afternoon, Nahid said the NCP was born out of the July uprising and is determined to fulfil the dream of a dignified and just Bangladesh.

The gathering took place at the Thakurgaon bus stand area following Jummah prayers at the district’s Art Gallery Model Mosque, as part of the party’s nationwide ‘July March’ campaign.

“Friends, we remember how students poured onto the streets in July and August to resist the fascist dictatorship. Many were injured and even martyred in that movement. Today, we stand here to honour their sacrifice,” Nahid told the crowd.

He alleged that the old fascist order still lingers in the country’s system. “The NCP has emerged to dismantle that structure and build a new Bangladesh rooted in justice and equality,” he said.

Nahid reiterated the party’s key demands, including justice for genocide, foundational reforms, and the adoption of a new constitution. “We must present the July Declaration within this July–August window,” he stressed.

Taking a strong stance on border killings and pushbacks by India’s Border Security Force (BSF), Nahid declared, “This is no longer Hasina’s Bangladesh—this is the people’s Bangladesh, reclaimed through uprising.”

He also criticised the capital-centric development approach, pledging to end regional and economic disparities. “Neglected districts like Thakurgaon will no longer be left behind. Development will be inclusive and nationwide,” he said.

The rally was also attended by NCP Central Member Secretary Akhter Hossain, Southern Chief Organiser Hasnat Abdullah, Northern Chief Organiser Sarjis Alam, Chief Coordinator Nasir Uddin Patwari, Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr. Tasnim Zara, and Thakurgaon District Coordinator Golam Mortuza Selim.
