India vs Bangladesh, Champions Trophy 2025: Head-to-Head Record as IND Begins Campaign in Dubai
Despite a 37-year rivalry, India and Bangladesh have met only once in Champions Trophy history. Rohit Sharma and his team will kick off their quest for back-to-back ICC titles when they face Bangladesh in the second match of the 2025 Champions Trophy on Thursday at the Dubai International Stadium. This will mark their second encounter in the 50-over tournament and their first clash since the 2023 ODI World Cup.
India enters the tournament with limited ODI action, having played just two bilateral series in the past six months. They suffered a 0-2 defeat to Sri Lanka in July last year, which was Gautam Gambhir's first assignment as head coach in the format. However, they bounced back earlier this month, securing a dominant 3-0 series sweep against England at home.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, has had a challenging run in ODIs, playing nine matches since 2024 and winning only three. Their recent performances include a 0-3 series loss to West Indies and a 1-2 defeat against Afghanistan in the UAE.
India vs Bangladesh: ODI Head-to-Head Record
Bangladesh played their first ODI against India in October 1988 during the Asia Cup at home, just two years after making their international debut in the format. Since then, the two teams have clashed 41 times, with India holding a commanding 32-8 lead. India's dominance was evident early on, as they enjoyed a 12-match unbeaten streak spanning 16 years before Bangladesh secured their first-ever victory in a home series.
However, in recent encounters, Bangladesh has proven to be a tougher opponent, winning three of the last five ODIs between the sides. This includes a 2-1 series triumph at home and a six-run victory in the Super Four stage of the 2023 Asia Cup. India, though, had the upper hand in their most recent meeting, defeating Bangladesh by seven wickets in the 2023 ODI World Cup in Pune.
India vs Bangladesh in Champions Trophy History
The only previous Champions Trophy clash between these two teams came in the 2017 edition. India, led by Rohit's unbeaten 123 and Virat Kohli's 96*, chased down Bangladesh’s 265-run target in Birmingham with ease, securing a nine-wicket victory. India went on to finish as runners-up in that tournament.
As both teams gear up for their 2025 Champions Trophy opener, history favors India, but Bangladesh will be eager to cause an upset.
